About this tool
Most of a big PDF's size is usually its photos. Timesnap re-saves the photos inside at a sensible size and quality, removes unused data and packs the file's structure tightly, while text and drawings stay exactly as they were: sharp and selectable. Choose Light for no visible change, Recommended for the best balance, Strong for the smallest file with sharp text, or Extreme to turn each page into a picture (smallest, but text can no longer be selected). If a PDF is already as small as it can be, the original is kept rather than making it bigger.
- Four levels, from lossless to smallest
- Text and vector drawings stay sharp
- Never makes a file bigger
- Compressed on your device — private and fast
Questions
How do I compress a large PDF for email without losing quality?
Start with Recommended: photos are kept at up to 2000 pixels, which still looks sharp on screen and in print at normal sizes, and text isn't touched. If it's still too big for your email, try Strong.
Why didn't my PDF get much smaller?
PDFs that are mostly text are already small; there's little left to remove. The biggest savings come from PDFs with photos or scans.
Is compressing a PDF safe for confidential documents?
Yes. The file is compressed by your own browser and never leaves your device.
