Timesnap Privacy Policy
Last updated 8 October 2026.
Timesnap is a camera app made by Rivontech ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the Timesnap app for Android and iPhone collects, why, who it goes to, how long it is kept, and your choices. The website timesnap.info has its own privacy page at timesnap.info/privacy.
The short version
- Your photos and videos stay on your phone, or in your own Google Drive if you turn on backup. We never receive them.
- To prove when and where a photo was taken, the app sends us a small proof record: the time, the place, and a fingerprint of the file. Anyone who has the photo's verification code can look that proof up.
- Proof records delete themselves: after 30 days on the free plan, or after 1 year with Pro.
- You don't need to give your name, email or phone number to use Timesnap.
- You can delete your account, and everything we keep with it, at any time.
1. What the app collects, and why
Location
If you allow it, the app uses your phone's GPS position, how accurate it is, and the street address your phone works out from it. It prints these on the photo's stamp and puts them in the proof record. Location is used only while you're using the camera, and the app works without it. Your phone's own system (Google on Android, Apple on iPhone) turns the position into an address.
Proof records
For each photo or video you verify, the app sends our server:
- its verification code;
- when it was taken;
- the location and address above, and whether the location looked simulated;
- whether it's a photo or a video, and the video's length;
- a fingerprint of the file (a SHA-256 hash);
- a compact "tamper map": a small grid of numbers made from the picture, which lets the checker spot edits. It isn't the picture, and the picture can't be rebuilt from it.
We use these only to let people check that a photo is genuine and unedited.
Anonymous account and app checks
The first time the app talks to our server, it creates an anonymous account ID. This has no name, email or phone number. It links your proof records and your Pro purchase to your phone.
Firebase App Check confirms that requests come from the genuine Timesnap app, using Google Play Integrity on Android or Apple App Attest on iPhone. When the app checks the true time, it sends a random installation ID, which we store only as a one-way scrambled form.
Pro subscriptions
If you subscribe to Timesnap Pro, we receive your plan, whether it's active, and when it renews or ends. This comes through RevenueCat, linked to your anonymous account ID. Google Play or the App Store takes the payment; we never see your card details.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, a crash report goes to Firebase Crashlytics so we can fix the problem. It contains your device model, system version and technical details of the crash.
Ads
The free version shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob may collect:
- your device's advertising ID;
- your internet (IP) address and approximate location;
- how you interact with ads.
In the UK, the EU and some other places, you're asked for your choice before personalised ads are shown. On iPhone, the advertising ID is used only if you allow tracking. Pro has no ads.
Google account and Google Drive (optional)
Only if you connect Google Drive: Google shares your name, email address and profile photo with the app. The app keeps them on your phone to show your profile; we don't receive them.
Backups go to a "Timesnap Backups" folder in your own Google Drive. The app uses Google's "drive.file" permission, so it can see only the files and folders it created itself, never the rest of your Drive. We never receive your Drive files.
Weather and map on the stamp (optional)
Only if you turn them on:
- To show the weather, your position, rounded to about 1 km, is sent to the weather service of the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (api.met.no).
- To draw the map, map tiles around your position are downloaded from OpenStreetMap.
Like any website, these services see your internet address.
Time
To stamp the true time, the app checks the time with our server and, as a fallback, with public internet time servers.
What we don't collect
Your photos or videos, your contacts or messages, your browsing, and analytics about how you use the app. We don't sell your data, and we don't use it for advertising ourselves.
2. Who can see a proof record
A proof record can be looked up by its verification code, which is printed on the photo's stamp. Anyone who has the photo can check it at timesnap.info, and will see when and where it was taken, including the address. That's how verification works. If you don't want a photo's place to be known, don't share that photo.
Records can't be listed or searched without their code.
3. How long we keep it
- Proof records and tamper maps:
- 30 days on the free plan;
- 1 year with Pro (when you become Pro, your recent photos are extended to a year);
- 90 days for photos taken with app versions older than 1.6.0.
- The link between a proof and your anonymous account: as long as the proof.
- True-time checks: 7 days.
- Spam-protection counters: about an hour.
- Your Pro status: until you delete your account.
- Crash reports: 90 days.
4. Where it's stored, and who handles it
Our server runs on Google Cloud and Firebase in London (europe-west2). The companies that handle data for the app are:
- Google: Firebase, Cloud, Crashlytics, App Check, AdMob, Google Sign-In, Google Drive and Google Play;
- RevenueCat: subscriptions;
- Apple: App Store payments and App Attest;
- The Norwegian Meteorological Institute and OpenStreetMap: only if you use weather or maps.
Some of them handle data in other countries, including the US. They do so under their own data-protection terms and the safeguards the law requires, such as the UK and EU standard contract terms.
5. Your choices and rights
- Location: turn it off at any time in your phone's settings.
- Ads: change your ad choice in the app under Settings → Privacy choices (where offered). On iPhone, use Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Delete your account: in the app, go to Settings → Delete account (or Profile → ⋯ → Delete account).
- This deletes your proof records, your Pro record, your RevenueCat customer record and your anonymous account.
- If you choose, it also deletes your Drive backups.
- Photos on your phone stay.
- No longer have the app? See timesnap.info/delete-account.
- Your rights: Timesnap is used worldwide, and we give everyone the same rights, wherever they live.
- You can ask us for access to your data, correction, deletion, restriction or a copy, and you can object to how we use it.
- Your local law may give you more rights; for example in the UK, the EU, the US (such as California) or Brazil. We respect those too.
- Email us, and include a verification code from one of your photos so we can find your records.
- You can also complain to your local data-protection authority; in the UK, that's the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
- Why we're allowed to use it:
- to provide the service you ask for;
- our legitimate interest in keeping it secure, preventing fraud and fixing crashes;
- your consent, for location and personalised ads.
6. Google API Services
Timesnap's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google Drive access is used only to back up and restore your photos and videos when you ask. That data isn't transferred to us or anyone else, isn't used for advertising, and isn't read by people.
7. Children
Timesnap isn't directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age for using online services in your country), and we don't knowingly collect their data.
8. Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top. We'll mention important changes in the app or the store's update notes.
